Peacock Is Moving Inside YouTube Premium

Peacock Premium

YouTube Premium is about to become considerably more than YouTube without advertisements.

NBCUniversal and YouTube announced a multi-year agreement on July 27 that will bring Peacock’s ad-supported programming into YouTube Premium in the United States beginning in 2027.

Subscribers will be able to watch Peacock television programmes, films and live sports directly through the YouTube application, according to confirmation provided to The Verge.

No Canadian launch was announced.

What the bundle includes

The agreement covers Peacock’s ad-supported service rather than its higher-priced advertising-free tier. Available programming is expected to include original shows and sports carried by Peacock, including NFL and NBA games.

The companies did not publish a complete content list or explain whether every Peacock programme will appear through YouTube Premium.

The partnership also extends NBCUniversal’s distribution agreement with YouTube TV, keeping NBC television networks on the American live-TV service. YouTube TV and YouTube Premium are separate subscriptions.

Peacock gains reach without finding every customer itself

Reuters describes the agreement as Peacock’s largest wholesale distribution partnership.

YouTube Premium has more than 125 million global subscribers across Premium and Music, while Peacock has 48 million subscribers in the United States. Not every global YouTube subscriber will receive Peacock, but the US bundle still gives NBCUniversal access to a large existing audience.

That can reduce the money Peacock spends persuading viewers to install another application, create another account and maintain another monthly payment.

YouTube is becoming the new cable company

The interesting part is not simply that two streaming services made a bundle. It is which company controls the screen and the customer relationship.

YouTube began with user-uploaded video. It now sells films, distributes television channels, carries live sports and bundles professionally produced streaming services.

NBCUniversal gains reach, but YouTube becomes the place where viewers discover, access and watch the programming. That gives Google more influence over distribution, recommendations and subscription habits.

For American subscribers already paying for YouTube Premium, Peacock could be a substantial addition. Canadian viewers should not assume they are included: neither company has announced Canadian availability, timing or an equivalent international package.

The deal is another reminder that streaming did not kill the bundle. It simply spent several expensive years rebuilding it inside different applications.
