The 2GB Raspberry Pi 5 Now Costs US$77.50

Raspberry Pi has raised the list price of its 2GB Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 by US$12.50. The new prices are US$67.50 for the Pi 4 and US$77.50 for the Pi 5.
The increase took effect October 1. The company blamed steep memory costs and said it could no longer protect the 2GB models after leaving them unchanged during an earlier round of increases.
What changed
- Raspberry Pi 4, 2GB: now US$67.50, up US$12.50.
- Raspberry Pi 5, 2GB: now US$77.50, up US$12.50.
- Raspberry Pi 4 and 5, 1GB: unchanged.
- Compute Module 4 and 5, 2GB: unchanged.
Hardware Busters notes that the 2GB Pi 5 was US$65 immediately before this change. Moving to US$77.50 is a 19.2% increase. It launched at US$50 in 2024, so the current list price is 55% higher than its launch price.
Those percentages are based on US list prices. They do not predict the exact change at a Canadian retailer.
Why the price moved again
Raspberry Pi’s announcement points directly to memory costs. That fits the larger market problem Mapletechie examined in how AI demand is raising memory and device prices.
AI data centres do not use the same memory configuration as a Raspberry Pi, but the demand affects how manufacturers allocate production and investment. Consumer electronics makers are competing in a supply chain that increasingly favours higher-margin data-centre parts.
Raspberry Pi says it expects memory prices to subside eventually and hopes to reverse its increases. It gave no date for that to happen, so buyers should treat today’s price as the real price rather than wait on an undefined reduction.
What Canadian buyers should compare
The Canadian checkout price includes more than a currency conversion. Retailer inventory may have arrived under an older cost, while new shipments may reflect the increase. Shipping, provincial tax and accessories can move the total further.
Compare the complete project cost:
- The board and the amount of memory the project actually needs.
- A suitable power supply, case, storage and cooling.
- Shipping and tax from a Canadian approved reseller.
- The price of a used mini PC if GPIO access and the Pi ecosystem are not essential.
The 1GB Pi 5 remains at US$45, according to Hardware Busters. That makes the jump from 1GB to 2GB unusually large. A lightweight server, network appliance or single-purpose controller may fit in 1GB, but a desktop workload, development environment or memory-heavy container setup may not.
Buying too little memory can waste the entire purchase if the project will not run reliably. Buying more than the workload needs is also harder to justify at these prices.
Use an approved reseller
Raspberry Pi warns that some unauthorized sellers charge inflated prices or ship products that are not what they appear to be. Its approved resellers agree to published maximum prices.
For Canadian shoppers, that makes the reseller list a useful first check. A marketplace price far below the normal total should be treated as a reason to inspect the seller and exact model, not as proof of a bargain.
